Lookouts

From the ponds of the Haute-Somme to the river estuary, 30 lookouts set up by the Department offer magnificent views over the Somme valley. The Poppy Country has 3 not-to-be-missed stops on this belvedere street.

Montagne de Frise

It's an unbeatable viewpoint over the Somme. This belvedere offers a spectacle combining Nature and History: on the mountain there are still traces of the trenches in which the writer Blaise Cendrars fought during the Great War. It's also a paradise for our farmers' goats and sheep. The  hike is not to be missed!

Montagne d'Eclusier-Vaux

Please note that access was difficult before the work was carried out, so you'll have to find other walks!

The starting point for a beautiful walk, this viewpoint offers a fabulous panorama of the ponds and meanders of the upper Somme valley. The eel ladder at Eclusier-Vaux has been restored to ensure scientific monitoring of the eel, an endangered species and emblematic fish of our ponds that must be preserved.

Camp César

A panoramic view of the Etinehem-Méricourt marshes.
An important vestige of the Gallo-Roman era, the Camp César oppidum was used by the Romans for its strategic position, offering an advantageous defensive vantage point overlooking the Somme valley. Various artefacts (pottery, tools, weapons, Roman coins, etc.) found during excavations bear witness to the continuous occupation of the site from the Neolithic to the Gallo-Roman period.
